I have a 302 that I wish to put headers on, will block huggers work? Everything in the engine bay (with ofcourse the exception of the motor) is original. The only real hinderance I've had w/ standard or long tube is the friggin' steering box and steering column. Will Hooker block huggers fit my application and, will I have any problems with slant plug heads?
I asked a simalar question about this for my 51 only difference was I am going to have a MII IFS. Didn't really get a specific answer. I herd stock manifolds work and that making your own headers can work well.....but I can't make my own headers so what I'm going to do is take the stock shorty headers from a like 93 mustang I have and see what clearance I have and then buy some new shorty headers from summit.....I hope it works, but if you find out that block huggers work please let me know
I'd suggest contacting Sanderson. They know which of their headers will fit almost any application you could possibly use them on, guarantee fit on the ones they recommend and will make you a custom set if they can't provide a set off the shelf. They also have the dimensions on all their headers.
Probably didn't get an answer because all manufacturer's "block huggers" are not dimensionally alike, so you can't say they will all fit.
You can get most header dimensions from the manufacturer websites. I know the last PAW catalog I had listed all of the dimensions. Sanderson headers are nice, but pricey. I think there would be some off-the-shelf block-hugger headers from Headman, Hooker, or whoever, that would fit and at a much affordable price.
I'm running block huggers on my 302 in my 51. You do have to make sure and use the "short" starter. I think the length is 6 1/8". It's really tight space even with the short starter. I had to grind a little off of the collector flange to clear the starter.
My headers are "Patriot" and cam from Sac Vintage. They have all of the info on the starter to use on their web site.
