Shorty headers??

Are they worth it?? ive heard alot of people say that they dont do anything..

id be satisfied with just 2-4hp gain really. i just want the piece of mind of headers.

i have any idea for a whole new exhaust on my 92' and shortys are part of it. just because of the convienience of them.

They give you no real gain at drivable rpms. Unless you drive it above 3500 rpms all the time, you wont be able to tell a difference, and they will hurt your low end torque as well. Better to just keep stock manifolds than waste your money on shorties.

Definately invest in some longtubes man. You will notice a signifigant difference and if your doing the exhaust anyway, you have nothing to worry about. Longtubes are cheaper for these trucks anyway.

Yup, so much more UMPH for alot less money! My longtubes were 125 plus shipping and the cheapest shorties I have found were summit brand for 149 plus shipping. Long tubes all the way. Nothing beats when you are cruising and your floorboards are rumbling!

Well i definately agree with the long tubes but i was thinking about the o2 sensor.

this is what i was gunna do:

get the shorty's(probably summit)
then buy this:http://www.car-sound.com/02product/d...irectfit=93307

and just run a custom exhaust with a magnaflow single in-dual out with the tale pipes out the front of the rear tire like a lighting.

anybody have pics of long-tubes with the o2 sensor somehow incorporated??

any help would really be cool. i would definitely like to put long tubes on but i dont want to get that deep in it.

well i found this

http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0002_695229_-1

and i can just drill into that and put the o2 sensor into it.

but is it ok to make the o2 sensor wires longer? isnt it going to change the resistance or something?

The o2 sensors need to say close to the factory distance from the heads, depending on your truck year they could be heated sensors, in which case you need them to be pretty close to the heads so the exhaust doesn't cool before it hits them.

I think you are overthinking this whole thing though. With longtubes, you can just weld the o2 sensor(s) in the collectors act the end of the headers and use the stock wiring for the sensors (I've heard it can be unraveled quite a bit to get more length). Some longtubes even come with the bungs welded in already. I'd lean towards longtubes if I were you

Yes.. there is more than enough cable in the stock wiring harness to reach the collector of a longtube header, you may just have to remove some tape and open up the wire loom a little. I have had 2 trucks with longtubes on them with a single O2 sensor in the passenger side collector, one SD 5.0, and this SEFI MAF 5.8.. both run fine and really benefit from the headers.

Just to verify before spending the cash... Long tube headers will work with a stock 92 5.0L? Only mod is a K&N airfilter. The computer, efi and intake can handle the header mod? The plan: Flowtech headers into 2.25" or 2.5" tubing... then Y'd into single 3" cat... then into a Magnaflow 3" in, dual 2.5" out 14" long muffler... tips exiting out the side before the rear tire. Is the tubing size OK or would 2.25" and 2.5" cat be a better choice with the stock 302? Thanks.

Your headers wont disrupt anyting. Your plan sounds fine, just use 2 1/4" pipe coming from the headers. Thats about the optimum size for a 302. After the cat is kind of irrelevent, because you will already have enough backpressure to run the engine efficiently by the time your exhaust gases pass through the cat, as long as you use the 2 1/4" pipe before it.

the O2 should be as close to the stock position as posible. In terms of distance to the head down the pipe. The guy programing my chip said that does have some effect on tuning and that if i moved it he could adjust for it.
