RJ and Bobby, you are both right. I took a look at a Mack Products catalogue that I have. The Ford beds up thru 50 have a skirt that sits lower than the top of the frame rail while the later beds (smooth sided beds) just have the skirt for a short length at the front and rear of the bed basically in front of and to the rear of the fender mounting location. This leaves the gap that RJ could use to exit the fill line. I would need to do what Bobby has done as near as I can tell.

Its a minor thing in the grand scheme of things. A couple of quick snips and then some banging around with a hammer and dolly to make a smooth edge so it won't cut into the fill pipe and away you go.........

Has Anyone Ever Removed The Orginal Battery And Mounting Box On The Passenger Side Of The 1953 -55 F100/250 And Installed An Orginal Type Gas Tank In It's Place? I Did This Many Years Back On A 55 F100. I Put The Battery Under The Hood And Filled The New Right Hand Tank By Opening The Passenger Door And The Battery Access Door To The Gas Tank Cap.
