Any ideas on what would be a good name brand brake contoller for my 1982 F250 w/300 I6 w/ 4 speed manual tranny?
Btw, how good a hauler is this truck with the 300 six?
"Ford Truck Enthusiasts" has a forum specifically for towing questions. This question has been asked a lot of times there. You won't even need to post a question, just do a quick search.
Also, when you're in the Towing Forum, click on the link on the left of the page under sponsors to "Etrailer", one of my favorite towing sites, they have a lot of good general info as well as vehicle specific wiring diagrams.
OK I read the towing forum areas. The Tekonsha Prodigy appears to be a favorite. Now I'm back here because this is still the right forum for asking questions or giving information out concerning these truck years.
For those of you that tow with these year vehicles, or know about them, my question is:
A lot of these newer brake controllers appear to use a lot of input from the newer truck's electronics and or EFI info (like deceleration I beleive) or did I get it wrong?
Would this Prodigy controller unit make any sense in my 1982 F250 300 six with single carb and 4sp manual tranny? if so, other suggestions?
Thanks
The deceleration is all built into the controller. All you need are a signal from the brake pedal, a 12 volt power source from the battery with a circuit breaker, a good ground wire, and a brake wire running to the rear.
Thanks for all the info gentleman.....Now if there's anything you ever need to know about blues guitar playing just let me know....(;>)
This website and forum have been a Godsend for me and my truck project.
Even though this website is basically free, if one so chooses, I feel it's the best $19.99 I've spent in a long time when I became a "Supporter".
You guys have saved me untold hours of research and the usual "learning the hard way" experiences.
One "Supporter", (Thanks BVA), actually went to the trouble of mailiing me a much needed part that he himself wasn't using and asked for nothing in exchange except the postage costs to mail it.
He mailed it all the way from Texas to Alaska the next day as I told him the cold weather was here and I could really use it in a hurry (no one manufactures this cold weather part anymore). Now that's the "American Way" of helping out you don't see everyday, sorry to say.
Again Thanks to all.
