I know you can flash tune em via the ECM but ive never heard of a consumer available product, when we work with early EFI engines in our performance builds we have a guy that completely redoes the computer. and dont ask me how he does it lol
Might be a bit better to get a custom tuned chip..you buy the blank then take it to the chip's shop IE superchips JET etc.... you tell them what you've got and what it's gonna be used for (kinda like choosin a cam) and they burn you a chip....Might also be better for yours as well since it's Speed density and it's a little more sensitive.....a flash tuner you plug in and it reprograms your ECU to give you some "hotter" stats in the computer....With a chip, if you ever sell the truck and wanna get it retuned for another truck you can pull it and it'll reset the truck back to stock.
ha didnt i say not to ask how he does it? i have no idea, he pulls all our codes and reprograms everything.
They way i understand it its like flareside says you can program for say higher speed and it raises the rev limiter (depending on the design of the limiter is mechanical or electrical) and can do towing and stuff also. on the drag cars we open up all we can for no holds barred performance.
The reprogram changes all of the parameters and tables inside the computer to match your setup, you can do it yourself if you have a twEECer or EEC tuner.
twEECer is a cool lil thing but it's mighty expensive the lesser expensive version is a tune and tweak tune and tweak kinda deal...the expensive one is a realtime program which lets you hook up the truck to your laptop and it gives you live stats in the engine and you can alter things while you're at a stop light or a gas station...kinda like what tuner cars use.....
