Reclock Power Steering Pump?
I have a 2003 F150 5.4L. How difficult should it be to reclock the back of the power steering pump? I have it off, I can get channel locks on the D-shape part of the back, but can't get it to turn. According to the TSB for the whine in this thing, it should be turned all the way ccw, but I don't want to force something into breaking. Thanks!

OK, turns out it had already been turned all the way CCW, which is why it was so dang hard to turn! It takes about 10 lbs of force to turn the back...no big deal, you can do it without disconnecting the lines to the pump if you turn the sterring wheel all the way left or right so you have room to work. I used a pair of vise-grips. I backed off it being all the way CCW just a hair, hoping that would help eliminate the whine.....I actually think it helped but only slightly. If your pump has not been reclocked, you may be able to turn the back CCW all the way and get some relief.
