hi i was just wondering what type of readings i should expect wen install my pyrometer tomorow. the probe will be in the exhaust manifold at the #6 cylinder ?
thanks all,
keith
What truck are you installing it in? Mine runs about 450*F at operating temp, on a hot day at Idle. About 600*F running down the road. I have seen 900*F on a hot day with 8psi of boost accerating on the interstate. That's the most I can make her do. Which tells me I have some room to open up the exhaust and turn up the fuel...She just runs so danged good and gets me almost 19mpg, I don't have the heart to monkey with her.
When I get the money the 4" Stacks with flappers are going on though.
My probe is just after the turbo, not an ideal location. I have a stock IDI turbo and I typically see 400 degrees on level road at 40 MPH. Accellerating up a big hill at between 10 - 15 lbs boost I've seen 800 degrees or so. 16 lbs of boost is the most I've seen from this truck, and that's right before the up-shift.
Idle I see about 250.
Normal driving is around 600 or so with 10 to 15 pounds of boost.
Hard in the throttle, boost over 25 PSI on a hill I am close to 1150 before I let off the loud pedal a bit.
