Hey all.....I started teardown my on 95 F-150 with a 5.0 today.I got as far as the upper intake off and pressurewashed. When I pulled the upper off I noticed more than a little oil residue in the upper and the lower intakes.I'm assuming that's more than normal(hmmm what gave me that idea?)I pulled the PCV valve off and shook it....sounded like a can of spraypaint....that's getting replaced. Also, I've got that wye pipe from the TB to the airbox and pulling the intake tubing off my BIO managed to snap off the plastic nipple that feeds a rubber hose to the oil fill on the driver side.Is there anyway to by-pass this...and does anyone have one I can buy off of them?lol......I'd like to bypass it completely if I can but otherwise I'll have a hellova time finding one in a boneyard.I believeI've only got one more thing...hmmmmm....before I even attempt to pull the lower intake off is it a good idea to pull the Injectors or can I leave them in?One more thing...I'm replacing the lifters because I have a tick.....what are some good lifters that will put up with the hard pedal that gets pushed in her without problem? That's it for now...thanks in advance to all.....
I pulled my lower intake off with the fuelrail, and inj's still in it. Easer to take it apart on the floor, then leaning over the truck IMHO. As for the lifters. the OE ones are normaly pretty good. I would look to get the stock ones. I think FRP sells them as a set.

The oil residue in the intake is from the PCV system. The "rattle can" sound from the PCV valve indicates it was still working, when they're gunked up and don't rattle, then you toss it. You need that tube from the intake hose to the oil filler, that's the fresh air inlet into the motor for the PCV system. Your "lifter tic" is either from them getting gummed up, or more likely the pushrod ends wearing out on the rocker end, these don't spin like flat tappet rods do and they end up with a knife like edge on the upper end. The stock roller lifters usually last 200K or better. Change the pushrods and rockers too if your doing the lifters, these wear faster than the lifters do.
Alrighty thanks for botrh the responses and ya'll have answeredmy ?'s...I kinda figgered the rattle can is what it should be like but...this one seem kind of excessive...for a truck with 115,000 on it...I'll go ahead and grab another one.I plan on picking up a set of 1.7 RR's from a guy hopefully tomorrow so i guess I shouldprice out the pushrods and the lifters get it all outta the way.Had to order the rubber VC gaskets I wanted so they'll be in sometime the middle of next week.I'm in the process of gasket matching and painting my intake.....I'm gonna color match my upper intake to the truck...hopefully it'll look good and not overly excessive...everyone does black didn't wanna do it...Now I just gotta find that dang wye piece for my intake...shoot.Thanks again.
You could put the small cone filter deal into the oil fill cap instead of running it to the air filter, Plenty of people do I wouldn't but to each his own!! Definately get the roller
rockers. I would order a phenolic spacer while it is apart it helps with the torque and
with overall power by keeping the intake cooler!!
well I've got the intake painted and will be posting pics probly tonite on my gallery.....I broke only one bolt (the driver's front) and not too...I avoided the second....now all i gotta do is get that rat ******* out...ugh, this oughta be fun.....Later all
