I just got done getting pulled out of my favorite play area( hit some mud and clay) and noticed that while i was in the muck trying to rock it out my it seemed like the front end wasnt engaged. every so often I would hear a clunk and then after about the 4th or 5th one the front tires started to spin. any ideas on where i should start checking? this is the first time i engaged the 4 wheel drive this year. Its a 83 f150 explorer with 3.55 limited slip on both axles.
Let's hope it is just this!! If the lever is getting bumped from the body bushings being worn out or if you have a body lift, It could just be moving the lever into 2wd to4wd
I would put a couple wraps of duct tape around the drive shaft and tie it off to
the frame go for a drive in 2wd and get up to 35mph check and see if the tape is still
there turn around and when you get close to the house, put it in 4 wd and see if it
tears the tape.
well i took it out today and it tore the tape in 2wd. but when i put it tin 4wd I could feel the front end pulling so I guess its working. thanks for the idea to try
