i already have an exhaust (removed 2nd cat, 2.5" going into a flow 40 series), and a k&n. well that made a huge improvement over stock. not looking for iginition upgrades unless it'll help with the mods i have planned.
anyway, id like to know more about turbos and 300s. i wouldnt mind 5psi boost and maybe 200+hp for my truck, daily driven also. would it be much down time? and how expensive would it be? and where would be the best place to get parts. mind it that im 17 with basic tools and minimal knowledge so PLEASE dumb down any technicals.
i would also like to know about porting and polishing a head for my truck. i have a dremel and feel i can do a standard "gasket" port but thats all i would do. how much power would that yield me and what else can i do. keep in mind the dumbinb down of technicals.
also, what about a cam. i would love to drop in a blueracr 270* cam into my truck. what kinda power increase would i see (estimate)? and is it easy? seems so all i gotta do is take out the grill, raditor and junk and i have easy access.
lastly would the cam, ported head and the turbo all work well with each other?
Porting & polishing your head will help with the restricted breathing of the big six. Larger valves will also help in this department too.
I run a crane bluracer cam in my truck, and i don't think it would do very good with a turbo, but then again, i don't have the turbo so i don't really know.
The turbo will have to be scavenged from another car to be used on your truck, and you will have to have the exhaust modified and a carb bonnet built.
All in all, with proper build, a 300 six should handle a 5 pound boost without any problem if all is right with the setup.
desperado, he is EFI, so he wouldn't need a carb bonnet; he could just plumb a charge pipe to the throttle body. Nonetheless, a turbo would have to be majorly custom, and with boost comes custom exhaust manifold, intake piping and *very important* increased fuel needs. I think you are headed in the right direction and admire your spirit, but being a 17 year old with hand tools, I would wait on the turbo for a year or two. I don't know about EFI cam compatibility, but definitely call up the guys at Comp or Crane; they are supposedly more than willing to help you out with that kind of advice.
