I know this isn't quite the right forum to ask in, but i know you guys as being really knowledgable so i figured i'd ask here first.
I have two 100watt halogen lights ontop the cab of my truck. Currently i have a 16guage wire running to each light.
My question is if two 16guage wires are gunna power them ok, or if its too thin.. I'm not sure of the amp draw on the lights, but they have small halogen bulbs at 100 watts each.
They will each be drawing roughly 8 amps, and 16 gauge should be fine for two wires, although if you ever need to redo them for any reason, use 14 or 12. Voltage drop is proportional to current draw (amps) and wire length, and I am assuming that the wires are fairly long, so there is probably some voltage drop between wherever you are getting power and the lights, and they would probably be a little brighter if you had thicker wire. But 16 should work fairly well, and is not a safety hazard (as long as they are properly fused).
