5 spd transmission

I'm looking at a wrecked F150 with a 6cyl. and 5spd and was wondering if the bolt pattern on the bell housing would fit a small block Ford and is this tranny the same as they use with the V8's

Thanks

Eric

The 300 6 and the 302w 351w do use the same bolt pattern. That same 5spd was available on small v-8s.

Yep, it will fit. However it's a mazda tranny and those generally aren't too happy behind a 351W or a built-up 302 - you'd be much better off with a ZF as they are much more indestructable, but the gearing is quite different, most notably first gear which in the ZF is really a granny gear. Great for getting off the line with heavy loads or a big trailer, but not too useful for other purposes.

Oh, and sitting in midtown NYC traffic the granny gear IS useful

No... the 289, 300, 302 and 351 all share the same bellhousing pattern. The 3.8 and 4.2 are different.

While there is such a thing as a small block Chevy, there's no such thing as a small block Ford.
