Camper shell cargo light

Hey, I have a 2004 superduty with a camper shell on it. I have the brake light wired in and it works fine. The cargo light that came with the shell is battery powered and does not give off enough light. I would like to either wire the existing light to 12v or install a new light to run off the truck's 12v system.
Can I just wire it into one of the wires already at the rear of the truck, or do I need to run a new wire. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Sorry about the repost, I posted this in the electrical forum also, I didn't know where I would get the most input.

My first question is how many volts is the current cargo light using. If it is 12V then it will be easy, anything else makes it a bit more difficult.

If it is 12V the easiest thing to do would be to tap into the black wire at the trailer harness. This is the trailer tow battery charge wire. It receives 12V+ whenever the key is in the on position. This will help to make sure you don't leave the light on by accident and run your truck battery down.

I would replace the light then run a wire all the way to the dash and tap onto a 12volt that comes on with the key or possible the lighter wire which is on all the time. I just did this a few days ago seemed the best way.

My light is a 6 volt so I am going to replace it. What type of a light did you replace yours with and where did you buy it.
Thanks.

My light was already installed but any truck accessorie place or even walmart has clear 12 volt lights that can be used.

Try these lights: http://www.svc.com/clk12wt2.html

These lights are for 12VDC, very bright, draw very little power, and pretty cheap.

Although it's for computer, but I use them for my truck and all my friends who want brighter interior lighting.

Thanks for your help. I noticed that my fifth wheel trailer has a 12 volt outside light under the overhang. So I went to the rv shop today and bought one for ten bucks and wired it into the license plate light.
Thanks again for your help.
