Hey fellow strokers hope some of you can help a fellow stroker out. My issue is with a 2005 E-350 with a 6.0L Recently have been driving this work truck and noticed a very very noticable delay in accelaration from a dead stop. Bad enough that it could be dangerous when turning across oncoming traffic. I can push the throttle down all the way and it accelerates like your grandmas oldsmobile !
I have given the engine plenty of warm up time, and unfortunately this problem does not seem to happen 100% of the time. I know it is not " me" because I have three other vehicles with this engine and don't have this issue.
The only other simmilar experience I could relate this to is one of my other trucks with the 7.3 engine that had an issue with the exhaust backpressure valve that clampt shut on me and would load the engine with fuel but not alow me to accelarate. Finally I disconnected it. Figured I could put a switch on it and use it as a Jake Brake for free !
Ran Diagnostic computer, no codes and no idiot lights. HELP
maybe you have the dreaded stuck vgt veins !!
do this, pop the hood and disconnect the connection where the electric cable goes into the vgt solenoid. (the only connection sticking out of the side of the turbo)
this disables your vgt. now drive it, if it feels the same, then you know what's wrong, if the lag is waaaaaaaaaaay waaaaaaaaaay worse, then we look elsewhere.
I have disconnected the cable that controls the turbo vanes. Most definately a difference off the line. I am assuming that when that line is not energized then the vanes are completely open acting like a big turbo for cruzing speeds. The problem I am having appears to be caused by something else. Anyone with more ideas would be appreciated. Like most of you guys I'm not a big fan of going to the dealer for these intermittent issues. Thanks !!!
is this something new that has happened that didn't used to happen before ? or have you just recently got this vehicle and it's always done this ??
because most people are suprised at first at the amount of turbo lag on our 6.0 motors, you really have to "roll on the power" instead of mashing from a stop. it is normal if that's the only issue ???
I have noticed the problem recently. I don't drive the vehicle every day as it is a work truck of mine that my employee's drive, however I do have other vehicles with the same engine and there is no comparision. After speaking to my employees they even notice the delay. This is more than a turbo lag as I am a driver of many diesels. International, Cummins, Detriot, Cat, I'm not really sure which turbo lag is worse the 7.3 or the 6.0. I guess the 7.3 has a worse lag especially when cold. I know it improves with a properly warmed up engine. Drove the 6.0 truck again today, same issue, mash the throttle from a dead stop and a I have a good three second count delay. I also notice the same when in neutral and goose the throttle. When I do goose the throttle and let it drop back down I also notice the RPM's dip down below 500 for a second or two, almost seems as if the engine wants to quit but does not. I'm wondering if the throttle pedal potentiometer assembly could be bad, wouldn't that throw a trouble code?
I have an extended warrentee that probably won't cover this " problem" Please help me from going to the dealer Thanks !
this is common with the 6.o. you have to roll into the throttle if you want to raise the rmp's RAPIDLY. mashing the pedal to the floor will always result in a slower launch either in gear or neutral. you can just about stall out the engine this way sometimes it feels like. the trick is to apply the throttle smoothly, once the engine starts to rev, then you can quickly apply more throttle.
and when you release the throttle from a higher rpm, the injectors actually "shut off" until the revs come down to where they need to fire up to keep the engine idling.
mine will drop down too, but it won't die.
