This is what I found in the repair manual. It' will take some specialized test equipment to do the test. If suspect the clutch is bad you should replace it. If it gets bad enough it can break and go through the radiator. The radiator shop in my area claims he gets quite a few damaged radiators from the fan clutch breaking. Most of them are ambulances or vehicles that set at idle a lot though.
it doesnt break, when you shut off the engine th momentum of the fan unscrews it from the water pump, it makes a strange whirrrrr then a ddddrrrrmmpppp, then a trickle as 6 gallons of rad fluid returns to mother earth....I have a used fan clutch for sale, any takers????
Has anyone ever seen an electronic clutch for the fan.I know somebody use to make one I saw it installed on a tv program 7-8 years ago.It was a dodge but i'm sure there are more applications.
It was made by US Gear. Was called Cyclone fan.
Had a lot of control problems, but the clutch/fan side of things was good.
I as of now I still use the clutch/fan with my own control.
Horton clutch is good also. May also not be available anymore.
I would like to try the new kid on the block. Variable speed clutch form horton.
