I have a 68' F100 with a FE motor. I have went through 4 Motorcraft 2100 carbs due to fuel leaks.
I just put the 5th one on last night and it too leaks at the top gasket. Between the fuel bowl top and air horn plate. I did a wet float adjustment but it still leaks. When I run the truck the fuel pump pushes fuel all the time. It is a new pump as the old one did it also. Every carb I have tried leaks there. Holley did the reman and is of no help. What gives? The fuel soaks through the paper gasket.
You are not alone, I am having the same problem. After I rebuilt it, it leaked. I also did a wet float adjustment and it still leaked. After cleaning my engine with gas 2 times I think I am going to have someone who knows what they rebuild it for me.

Take the cover off and run the engie at idle to see what is going on. If the fuel level runs over the top of the bowl at idle, there is still something wrong with the needle valve and/or float.
Also, check the fuel line pressure before the carb. IIRC you should have 4 to 6 PSI fuel pressure.
With those two verified, check the carb body and cover for flatness. That pot metal gets easily bent if you don't pay attention during reassembly.
Yesterday I tried to start my truck with the cover off the carb and gas blew the needle out of its seat. I called it quits after cleaning up the gas. I will blow out the seat and try to start again tonight.

I saw the first post, and almost quoted him. By now, I would hope 390fe and robs68 would have things sorted out. If not....I don't think there's anything I could add to help them. LOL
After rebuilding my carburetor and trying to start my truck it leaked a LOT of gas. I didn’t know what was causing the problem so I did a Google search (f100 crab leak) and found the 8 year old link at the top of the search results.

<o></o> It sounded like robs68 had the same problem I was having. I didn’t realize it was an 8 year old post at the time. I took Hypoid’s advice I removed needed valve seat and float blew out with air and reassembled. Now the truck starts and runs like new. This is the second time FTE has told me how to fix something on my 1964 F100.
