Mileage

I was pretty impressed with my civics fuel mileage. I know its a honda but check it out.
I cam back from edmonton last night, average speed 130 km/h and I got 32 miles to the gallon as a rough estimate. I love my PSD but theres no way it would even come close to being that cheap to rip to edmonton and back!

Last weekend when I went home with the focus I also drove around 130 km/h and got 31 mpg. Not to bad for the speed. If I drive speed limit we usually get around 37mpg.

Well with my VW Jetta I can get around 53mpg. Great to drive and a diesel to boot.

i'd be expacting more from a civic, seeing how they're rated to be the gas meiser and all. 37 isn't bad, my inlaws rented a sx2.0 when they were in NL for our wedding. that used to get 22 in town, 26-29 on the highway doing the limit. thats nasty for a wee little junker!!

You expect a car to get more then 32 mpg when driving at 130 km/h?! You have some high expectations man! When I drive 100 with it, I actually havent figured it out yet, but its definatly around 40.

Devon I was actually checking out a diesel jetta. I really liked the car, the only thing that set me back alot was the lack of power. The one I drove was an 05 and had low km's on it, and it barely had enough jam to pass someone on the highway.

our trucks can get over half that at the same speed, but 2-3 times the weight/size/power...etc. yep...i'd expect more out of a little car. nothing against your car(other than the obvious )... cost aside...whice would you prefer to drive...the PSD or the civic???

If your truck can get 16 mpg on the highway doing 130, you have one of the rarest trucks out there sherm, cause I havent heard of one yet that does that! Once my PSD gets over 2100 rpm, it starts to drink the fuel alot more noticeable.

Fuel mileage the civic for sure, driving to edmonton on 20 bucks is just the cats meow!

All in all theres no contest between the civic and the PSD. The PSD rides great, has oodles of power, and gets about 25 mpg on the highway. The PSD is fully loaded with leather, and the civic is nice enough, just about fully loaded, its just a small car.
The civic will move along really good on the highway though. Its a fast little car.

Remember it was bought just for fuel economy, and reliability purposes!

to be quite honest, i haven't and probably never will sustain 130kph for any period of time, so i guess i shouldn't argue to that effect. however, if you get 40 at 110, i can and have got 22-26... in comfort, in my ford... not trying to start a racket prep...just expressing my love of ford trucks, and dislike of small cars.

Thats pretty good rpm for doing a buck ten! What gears do you have in it?

You have to keep in mind I would way rather drive a truck, but when a guy starts putting on a ton of extra miles on his vehicle to go to work and back, sometimes ya have to suck it up and get a car. Picture yourself driving 5 hours to work a few times a month. It starts to add up, not so much on the cost, but the wear and tear of the vehicle.

I gotta be smart man, put the miles on the Honda, and go a little easier on the good ol Ford!

I would have to agree with prep not to be a jerk but the faster you go the higher the rpms= more gas you use

also agree with if you do a lot of highway driving car is better eh prep i would do that to probably lots of kms put on highway trips not as bad wear and tear as city driving

sherm has 3.55 i believe same as mine

Hey Preppy, I don't know. There must have been something wrong with that one. I take a trip to Minnesota every winter to visit with our Jetta. I can easily cruise on the Interstate at 80 mph and have no problem passing. I had an 02 and have just traded up to an 06. This one has more jam but it is a lot bigger than my 02. It is great to commute with that is for sure.
