I took my truck in to get my transmission replaced and I asked the guys to look at the 4wd to see why it wasnt engaging. Well turns out that it was engaging and getting power to the axel but it wasnt gettin power to the wheels.
Any ideas on what it might be?

Ditto on the hubs, especially if it is 98 to early 00 with the oh so problematic vacuum pulse hubs. If it is the VPHs that you have, the problem could also be a vacuum leak or vacuum solenoid. If any of the above is your problem, the easiest fix (and way cheaper than the dealer) is to replace the vacuum hubs with a set of AVM manual hubs. I made the switch recently and they work great. Probably the vacuum going to the hubs. The hubs require a vacuum connection to engage or disengage. If you search here, there are a couple of good threads on the subject. I was able to fix mine by carefully removing the hub lock and cleaning the O-ring. New o-rings cost about $1.50 each at a ford dealer. The trick is to not break the plastic tabs on the hub locks, otherwise, they're trash. Ford recommends using a special tool but I'm able to remove them by wedging small finish nails in each pair of tabs and pulling the hub lock off.
The AVM manual hub locks are about $100 for the pair. I have a pair of those now ready to install if/when the vacuum goes again.
