a few weeks ago i got in a wreck where a idiot in a honda civic ran into my 1984 blue f-150 front passenger tire, it bent the axle housing so i replaced the axel housing, pivot bushing, ball joints everything under the sun in the front end on both sides... so a few days back i heard a loud pop! and i tried to figure out what it was from but i couldnt find it. now whenever i take a left turn it pops a lot. does anybody know what this could be from if you could give me some advice that would be great thanks.
oh and i replaced and checked the u-joints so i dont believe they are causing it
Axle housing is this a 4x, I assume so since you replaced the u-joints.
If it is a 4x does it do it in 2hi with everything unlocked?
I would also check the radius arm bushings.
What about the front bearings or lock out hubs.
yea its 4 wheel drive. it does it in 2hi with everything unlocked i replaced the radius arm bushing front bearings are good i havent checked the lockout hubs... maybe i should i will tomorrow...
Check the bearings and races too. I am sure the front end does not like side impacts like that.
Can it be driven without the hubs on, to eliminate the hubs being the problem.
This way you can make sure it is the bearings/races only? By driven, I mean on your street at low speed. Maybe not, just a visual inspection may be all that is needed.
Are the auto or manual hubs? They maybe locked/jammed.
they are manual hubs.. i know they lock and are free going straight because i can turn the driveline in free and cant in lock but im wondering if your right about maybe its locking up on left turns for some reason.....
Check the universals, even tho everything is unlocked the universals will bind, I have had this happen to several of my buddy's trucks. Just worth a look. Did you find the problem yet?
There is going to be an associated turn with them, just from movement, if they are tight, rusty etc, and are in the right place at the right time. POP. Also check shock mounting. But if its 4x4 check the universals(Axle joints)
