This may be just another dumb question but it's driving me nuts. I have this noise coming from my '97 PSD (84K) engine that is hard to describe. If it was a gasser I would describe it as a lifter or tappit noise.
It does it "Lightly" at idle and as I accelerate it gets louder. I can then back off of the throttle and almost delete it, more fuel louder it gets.
I can't honestly tell if it has just recently arrived or if it's always been there. It might even be a noise that diesels make, I don't recall it being there when I bought the truck 6 mos. ago.
If I could get rid of this "Ticking" (another description) it would be a very quiet engine. The engine runs great, never stumbles, misses or stops the SOB just keeps this damn loud ticking as it it was a Timex.
I just read the "Cackle" thread, could this be what I'm hearing? Also, I'm running the Super Chip in "Safe Tow" Mode and that thread stated that a chip could increase the cackle!?!?
possibly just normal diesel engine noise... in my tony wildman chip on the "daily driver" setting it makes LOTS of engine noise i guess based on when the injectors fire and the pulse width... it's silent in the "tow" mode with just exhaust and turbo noise...
