exactly... the hard part would be separating the lense from the housing, Ive tried it before on old headlights and Ive sometimes got them apart and other times broke it. Guess it also depends how much glue they gob on it.
If you get it apart your gonna have to get some good glue or Fusor to put it back on.
On the 05-07 lights, I've read of a few who got them apart with either a heat gun or baking them in the oven.......and others who couldn't using the same methods...
Should be able to, I did on my headlights, took stock 06 headlights, heated them in the oven, separated the lens from the housing, then got all the chrome off, believe I used a brillo pad it came off pretty easy, then use duplicolor adhesion promoter and painted them black, everyone thinks they are hd headlights. You really can't even tell.
thanks for the info guys, just found a website ,puredieselpower.com, that sells the HD headlights, there a bit pricey $649.00. so maybe ill try the "cook-m" technique to see if i can seperate them.
Also, check out ebay. I bought a set of aftermarket ones on there that I am very pleased with so far. The sellers name was performance_depot and it looks like he has a couple pairs for sale right now.
Allright guys, I've got the headlights out of the truck and the lenses and all the silicon/glue removed and I'm ready to paint the chrome housings black. BUT, are the harley's flat black or gloss black? Please reply quick! Thanks
Doesn't this end up reducing light output by defeating the reflector's reflection and focusing of the light from the bulb?
The harley lights still have the mirrored reflective surface, it is just the outer trim that is painted black. Here is a pic so you can see what I mean.

If you are still wondering mine appear to be glossy black paint.

Thanks, I'm only painting the outer trim. I'm doing a black semi-gloss. It's labor intensive to seperate the housings, remove all the glue/silicon, and to sand off all the chrome from that trim piece. But, i'd rather spend 4 hours than almost 600 bucks. I'm adding a ned ford racing emblem too. This should look pretty good on a white truck.
