radio

I just purchased a 1998 ranger. The radio is stock. It appears that the only way to adjust the volume of the radio is to press and hold in the volume/power **** and turn. Does this make sense? When the radio is already on you have to turn it off, then turn it on again while holding in the ****. Seems very odd. Is there some combination of buttons that will change this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to FTE!

Mine used to be like that. I think I replaced it with a new radio, another stock unit (that had a CD instead of a tape deck). I can't remember if I did something to fix the volume issue. It isn't supposed to work that way. My guess is that there is a loose connection from the volume potentiometer to the circuit board that connects when you push the **** in.

Jim:

thanks for the info. I didn't think it should work that way. Maybe I'll check it out when I remove it to replace the dash lights.
Thanks again

Jeff
