I disconnected the red line from the wastegate today, Noticed quicker turbo responce and boost pressure hit 25 with out flooring it. However With the line on I can still hit 25 psi, takes longer and have to use more pedal.
I guess my question is , does this mean my wastegate is up to correct operating specs with the line on and other than faster spool up with less throttle is there any other benifit. Also would any of you change the wastegate to a mecanical one at this time or wait til it starts losing tension in the spring . OBA should be here next week. And just for safety on a stock turbo I should really not exceed 25 psi boost much. is that correct?
Rick
Sounds like it is working normal. The PCM commands the solenoid to actuate the wastegate actuator with as little as 5 psi of boost. So by removing the red line you are delaying that opening. Exhaust backpressure still overcomes the spring inside the wastegate actuator, but the lack of airflow through the red line keeps it from opening at lower pressures.
