modifying the stock fuel pump

Have heard the the stock pump is capable of higher fuel pressure. Can this be done without buying a lot of extra parts? Truck has bigger injectors, air cleaner, and exhaust. Thought the bump in pressure would help. Truck runs hard up to just before shift then kinda loses some power. When it shifts, the lower rpms, all the power is back. Seems to starve for fuel the split second before the shift.

what truck are you talking about ? what year ? what motor ? what mods ?

are you running a programmer ?
you know they do defuel a little bit during a shift, they dont shift under full power usually.

I would assume it's a 6.0 since he is posting it in this forum. He said bigger injectors, air cleaner, and exhaust for mods. I can tell you I'm running the stock pump and I have bigger injectors(tow injectors), air filter now, and exhaust but I did also add a fuel regulator to it as well. I had heard unless your ******* it with an ultra comp file all the time, you should be alright, but I would get a fuel regulator and you can monitor the pressure on there and if it drops then you might need to change and/or upgrade.

the 6.0 has a fuel regulator. i have a fass, so that's covered.
but i can tell you that even with stock injectors the ultra comp file will tax the stock fuel system to the limit.

in his sig he states numerous trucks, but none of them were a 6.o, that is why i was asking.

The stock fuel pressure can be raised by shimming the regulator spring with a .177 diameter BB. Bobcat has a steel ball part# 6592105 that is .187 and will give you about 60-65 lbs of pressure. Problem is not pressure it's flow. With a hot tune on stock injectors you can drop your fuel pressure to 20# easily even with a shimmed regulator OR a regulated return system. 40# is really the minimum you want to go without hurting your sticks. With bigger injectors you are killing them with a stock pump, plain and simple.

One other thought. Some programmers defuel on shifting depending on what kind. It's a crappy way to control the tranny.

Well that's true, but it doesn't do a very good job with the dead-heading that goes on. No his siggy doesn't state any 6.0, and I was just assuming as I would think it would be pretty pointless to post in a 6.0 forum and be talking about any other engine, but it is an assumption on my part.

I am sorry- it is an 05, it is a 6.0 and the mods are listed. I did however forget to ask about the programmer, my bad.
npccpartsman- Thank you, I believe that was the answer he is looking for.

He really needs to invest in a FASS system for his truck if he wants to protect those expensive injectors and a good ITP regulated return system would be better than nothing. At least it would do away with the dead headed fuel system.

What he's feeling is programmed defuel caused by the banks system, but everything else we all said is true.
