I just bought a 06, going to have about 1000 dollers to spend from selling parts I took off the old truck. Looking for opinions on what to do. I have the pillar mount gauges (egt, boost, and trans) from the last truck.Thinking of doing the SCT cal III from spartan diesel, and mbrp turbo back exhaust. what else do you all reccomend doing. I can flexthe budget a little if needed, but lookin for some of cheaper odds and end mods you all reccomend. Or if you have an opinion on what to do first before the SCt or exhaust or an opinion on somthin other than those let me know, thanks Aaron.
Those are really the best preventative maintenance things you can do to extend the longevity of your truck. Change the oil every 5K, fuel filters 15K (or less) and add an oil bypass filter down the road.
why the coolant filter? My 7.3 had this done when I bought it and I guess I never researched the advantage. Should I do anything with the egr cooler? I keeep reading bad things about that little fella.
Seems like the coolant system is always full of gunk and the coolant filter helps tremendously. EGR delete or sneaky pipe is a great thing to do along with the SCT. I always forget that one. Give Matt a call and he'll steer you straight. 828-606-3263
Use the OEM exhaust and save some cash. How? Using the MBRP 3.5" downpipe and MBRP cat delete pie. These will fit the OEM tubing and provide greater exhaust flow; if you choose cut out the muffler for a 3.5" straight piped exhaust for under $300. I agree with NPCCPARTSMAN for the rest of the mods.
like has been stated. use your gauges. get the sct. leave the intake alone for now. get a better turbo back exhaust and ditch the cat. DO NOT USE THE STOCK PIPING.
set aside money for a torque converter, stock one wont last long under hi power conditions.
Is it worth it to put the banks techi-cooler in an 03 6.0?
An A/M intercooler will lower your charge air temps and EGT temps. Personally i like the "Spearco" intercoolers a little better but either will work.
FYI, if you are going to do an intercooler then you need to go with a 4-inch (3.5-inch downpipe) turbo back exhaust as well.
I am going to do the zoodad mod tonight, kinda forgot about. Where does the sneaky pipie go? Is it part of the exhaust? I have been trying to research what is the best way to eliminate the egr any advuce?
I had my sneaky pipe installed at a muffler shop along with the exhaust. Noticeable performance increase. I have on my list is an intake manifold elbo along with the SCT programmer last.
