i've got a 72 f-100 thats getting prepped and painted (inside and out) by the local technical college in a month. problem is i've been too busy screwing with the 302 i'm gonna put in it to even think of a paint sceme. its gotta be something simple seeing as its being done by a student and i definatly want something old school but otherwise i'm totally open to suggestions
I am a huge fan of 2 tone with the bottom part beneath the spear edge being white.
They do make molding that divides the paint colours nicely.
Check out my gallery I went with green and white on my 1969, but red, blue, black with white they all look good.
The OEM on my 68 was lunar green and Wimbotin white. green on top. Its ok but I plan on painting the whole truck dark blue with the ford letters on the tailgate white. Also the grill and interior I think would look good white. But I haven't desided. At least thats what I desided after not even owning it for 2 weeks What so A an can't dream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like the 2 tone paint schemes. My 68 is Blue over white (white cab). I'm in the process of preparing mine for paint inside and out. I'm going back with the same scheme except I'm using a darker brighter blue than the sky blue, with all paint being metallic's. The metallic white is a 3 coat system.
Factory two tones are great; but there's so many colors out there. since your getting everything painted that opens up a huge paint can. I'm partial to two tones; and once I'm able $$; I'm going to paint my 68 two tone Wimbeldon White & (Nissan copper/ burnt orange??). Right now its light blue & white. I had my 65 painted by students of NADC in Nashville; Over all great job for a two tone (In my Gallery); I wish the night class was able to paint my truck for numerous reason, mainly because I beleive the student to instructor ration was to high during the day course and I could of gotten a little better attention to detail & less office brass at night allows for more focus on assignments. Just a thought with a tech school doing your truck; but I got alot more than what I paid for using the tech school verse a private body shop.
When I last painted my '72, the paint shop didnt have a paint color Wimbledon White anymore, so I matched up a early 90's white called Glacial White. Very close, although I prob could have had them computer match a chip from previous paint. I think I actually liked it better. But if you're into factory colors, there isnt many. When I got the truck, it was the 2 tone brown/yellow. didnt like that at all.
Just a thought - Find a paint supply shop ( Yellow Pages ) in your area. They should have books with factory and custom colors to look through. There are a lot of TYPES of paint (enamel, laquer, epoxy & Emeron ) Epoxy is best but most $$$. with or without clear coat. The list goes on.....
I'm doing my '71 in red and white. My only other consideration was blue and white!!! I just love the classic look of a two tone paint job on our beloved bumpsides.... I had a '67 a number of years back that I did in the old Ford cream color and Ford Performance Red. It came out very nice, too. Unfortunately, it was in the days before digital cameras and I don't have a pic of it. Don't go by me though--I have a very poor eye for color combos, I found a couple that look good and stick to them. I also have to admit I'm something of a red-aholic anyway!!!!!
thanks for all the ideas i think i'm either gonna go gloss black with chrome trim on the spears and wheel wells or a do two tone, red (they match to original ford red) with wimbleton white roof
yep thats what i was gonna say is that my favorite color schem is the 2tone red with wimbletom white. thats what my 71 was.
but my 69 right now is all gloss black with chrome.
wow what a coincidence you say that.
yep i would go with either or. a black truck looks pretty beastly sometimes ya know.
For future reference Big Red... It is "Wimbledon White"
Sorry. I try to spell everything correctly but every once in a while there's always one that slips through. It was a long day at work.......
If I took every little thing as a personal attack I would have already had a heart attack!! I for one assume that every responce is helpful and is like you said, is just a comment or statement. We are all here for a good experience and to gain knowlege. Thanks for the correction.
