cooling problems

I own a 1978 LN 700 with a 391 engine. I have had a cooling problem with it since new, I replaced the clutch fan with a 5 blade rigid fan it works a bit better and I also put a new rad in it. It still heats. what can I do to cure this ongoing problem?

Free, what do your water pump and thermostat look like? Maybe you could try a new edelbrock pump and a hi flow stat from robertshaw ? DF

If you have had this problem since new, two thoughts come to mind. For some reason, the radiator is too small. Will a more core radiator fit in there? 2nd is that there is some restriction in the water path. I believe a good radiator shop could do a flow test to verify the volumne of water that the pump is pumping, against some standard. Bob
