A sharp hacksaw blade and a steady hand, will slice through any oil filter like soft butter. All you have to do is cut around the canister, and the top lifts right off to expose the filtering media.
Sawzall with a fine blade, or a dremel with the cutting wheel be real steady. Somebody suggest I try that can opener that cuts the side of your soup can
since I cut open my filters, If someone has one of those openers let me know
if it works!!
Its almost routine in aviation to cut open spin-on filters to check for metal chips or other signs that the engine is ready to fail. I tried a large pipe cutter from HF with poor results and went back to a hacksaw. This is another reason I like cartridge filters.
Put a microwave magnetron magnet on the end of the filter can and see how much metal is caught there. Take apart a micro and be careful of the capacitor and the sharp edges inside it of course, you'll see a big silver squre thing with heatsink look
to it use apair of side cutters and pry the clips, cut hack whatever, Get the magnets\depending on the size they should be around 3" or so donut magnets. Those
puppies are strong don't let your skin get pinched or insta blood blister!! They are
rare earth magnets and are real strong put one on your filter and use one to hold
nuts and bolts stick it to your frame and stick the bolts to it.
Must find old microwave !!!
*Runs to the pawn shop screaming*

I use a large pipe cutter from Rigid. It only takes me three spins around and off it comes. Put the bottom in a vise makes it easy. Im surprised at the junk in their sometimes.
