what was this wire

while testing the glow plug realy, i found a wire with an open end down near the fuel bowl

after a while of looking around thinkg where it could possibly go, i found out that it goes onto the bracket that also hosts the red and green wastegate (i believe) tubes....it went right above them on the upside down L shaped plug in..what is this and what does it do

i have always noticed this being empty ever since i bought the truck and never thought anything of it .. could it have caused any harm?

pressure valve electrical connector...I wouldn't bet the ranch on it - but I think that is what it is called.

Well, my guess, is that it is involved in opening the wastegate. I'm guessing that is the purpose because isn't one of the lower lines at the bottom of the valve connected to the wastegate? Hopefully, someone much smarter will come along and educate us both...From my guess it follows that the wastegate on your turbo has not been opening for awhile.

It's the electronic control for the wastegate...designed to not send any boost to the wastegate actuator until the computer tells it to. I'm suprised it wasn't throwing any codes with that thing unplugged. Even though all my red and green lines are gone since I don't have a wastegate, I've still got that electrical piece on there.

As long as the turbo wasn't pushing over 25 psi of boost very often, it wouldn't have caused any damage to the turbo. One of two things was happening. Either your wastegate was simply delayed opening because of drive pressure, rather than with boost pressure for the actuator. Or, your wastegate was opening prematurely, but I see the first instance as being more likely.
