Do you have the California Emissions Package? If so, it will cause a CEL w/ it unplugged (mine did after the second start-up). It leaves evidence of you disconnecting it unless you reconnect it and clear the memory (prior to taking to dealership for any reason).
If you do not want to have the potential of the EGR Valve plugging up, etc, I would install the EGR delete pipe - much better than unplugging the EGR valve. W/ the delete pipe, you may still get a CEL w/ a 2006 if it has the California Emissions Package (don't know for sure but I think so), but you will know that the EGR valve is absolutely not flowing exhaust gasses this way AND you avoid problems w/ EGR cooler leaks.
Definitely go w/ the tuner if you are not too concerned over potential warantee hassles w/ the dealership. Sure seems like the SCT tunes that Spartan and Elite Diesel offer could be used by Ford to actually IMPROVE reliability .......... that would sure be something good to see!
I cant decide so i want yall to help me decide. I have an 06 stock motor. Should i leave the egr plugged in or unplug it?
Since you have an 06 unplugging it will give you a "check engine" on your dash display. I don't think it matters on the Californial package. I'm in Florida and I tried it once and got the check engine lite.
I don't have the programs yet to shut it off so I just leave mine unplugged. I do get a CEL (mines a california truck) but I definitely notice less smoke and quicker response with it unplugged.
If you do unplug it, there is a procedure to unplugging it that will ensure it is in the closed position. If the procedure is not followed, you could just guarantee it stays partially open all the time. I'll try to remember where I say the procedure listed.
If it is already loading up it likely won't close all the way. I do not recommend that '06 6.0s pop the plug as all should display the CEI and they do not have the issues that the pre-'06 units had. Or at least not to the same extent.
yep ... best bet is to use an sct to disable it, but yes you should disable it. remember that if you unplug it, you will get a check engine light, and IIRC when the CEL is illuminated, the vehicle goes into a safe mode and will make slightly less boost.
Leave it plugged in. I did some experimenting with mine (07), and the truck runs best with it left alone (and the truck definately knows when the "real" EGR is there and plugged in). As to experiencing more power or better response I call B.S. (unlesss you actually have a problem with the EGR in the first place).
I DO recommend the EGR delete option, because then you know that sucker is SHUT !!!!

Well it's been reported MORE THAN ONCE that some have experienced better throttle response with no loss of power by disabling the EGR including myself so call BS all you want.
Cleaner air burns quite a bit better than recycled air...
