'99 E-250 4.2 DPFE sensor
Hello everybody, I have a '99 E-250 V-6 cargo van that the dealer tells me needs a new DPFE sensor; they want around 350.00 to replace it. Where is this thing and can I replace it myself? The parts counter at the Ford dealer hear asked which calibration the sensor was (apprarently a couple of choices). Not sure what to do; the sensor is tripping an engine service light. Does this sensor affect performance in any way? I've put some money in the van recently for full tune up, trans filter change, front end work, etc. etc. and am reluctant to take it back to the dealer. Also, I know performance parts for this motor and espcially for the van are slim, but what could I do to get some more power out of it? It's a daily work van and carries about 1500 or so lbs. plus glass. It runs fine and I don't want to do anything radical to it, maybe free up the exhaust or something; any sources for van exhausts?

Look towards the front of the passengers side valve cover,rite above it,and you will see a black rectangle looking device.It is about 3" wide,1.5" tall,3/4" thick,with vacuum lines and an electrical connection running to it.It usually has 2 10mm or 8mm nuts holding it onto a bracket.Make sure you disconnect the negative battery cable upon replacing it!
