what year truck is it? If it were me I would go to a wrecking yard and find the same year truck with a tach and get the instrument panel off of it and swap I know the 92-96 will work plug and play with the same year model !!

Tach hooks to the coil and ground.......and a 12v wire for your light. Directions in the tach should tell you where.

Linemo is right about the swap......very easy to change the cluster......here's the info.......

Make sure you get the right year to do it......."Lost in90's" has some for sale in the classifieds.

Good Luck
Bob

If you look at the terminals at the coil one will have a red/light green that's 12 volts for the coil.

The other terminal will have a tan/yellow wire. The tan/yellow wire is the one you want to splice into or attach a new wire to the same terminal for your aftermarket tach.

I have a 92 F150 (dead) with a tach in the gauge cluster. Can I switch this into my new 94 F150 w/out Tach? Or is the airbag the problem? Sorry to hijack your thread waynef250. Thx.

another vote for doing the tach swap. i was looking at adding an aftermarket one myself before i realized you could do this. i'm a terrible mechanic and can do the tach swap in about 15 minutes once you get the right year/part
