That red wire is not stock. It was probably run for a brake control for a trailer or something like that. Take it out, or make sure it has a circuit breaker or fuse over near where it hooks to the solenoid if you want to use it for something.
There is no way to know for sure what the thing in the valve cover is unless you can put a picture of it in your gallery. A wild guess is that it's the PCV valve.
franklin that makes scence about the red wire but did ford not offer trailer brakes stock? or was that all after market?? also ill try to post pics i got a few questions about differnt stuff under my hood jsut got my junk yard exhast hooked up now i gotta put the slave cylnder back in and im all done.. 20$ exhast + hackin up what i had to make a full system.... just gotta last a few paychecks so i can get duels
In the early years, they installed a little bit of the wiring for trailer towing, but not much. As the years went on, they added more and more of the required wiring, but they never offered a brake control until I believe in the last few years they have offered one on their new trucks.
ok thxs for the info on that im just goin to leave it the guy that had this before me has it set up for 5th wheel towing the connector is not hurtin any thing and i may use it one day so its goin to jsut stay
My '83 has the same wire running around the front of the truck that ends above and to the right of the brake booster. It is connected to a terminal with nothing else attached to it. I always wondered what it might be for... After reading this, I think I have found out. Thanks!
