Ross,
You should be able to right click the pics and save it as background pic. I do pics like that all the time. But your right on the size of the pic though, sometimes it won't look right but if it don't you can always change it out with another. I just do it like that b/c I've heard that having alot of screen saving pics it will slow your computer down some.
