Me too.Thats one of the things I miss most about Michigan.By now,I would have cut and split about fifteen cords of wood, and had it stacked, seasoned and ready to burn.It was a ritual of mine that on Labor Day weekend,I would always clean out the wood stove,,brush the chimney, and have that stove all prepped and ready for winter,,,heck I even got yelled at a few times cause I couldnt wait and fired it up anyway!HEY! WHAT the heck are you burning wood for,,it is 70degs outside!Oh well,I love the smell,I love the satisfied feeling looking out at a large wood pile, knowing that I was all set for winter. And of course I love watching a fire burn,,,

I burn balsa wood. It's a hardwood, you know.

Smells like...........WTF is that smell?

Seriously, I don't use the fireplace. It's not safe.

It's a fire hazard, so I just use the furnace when necessary.

I would like to get the fireplace to code and use it, though.

The fire place is too small.

It use to have a gas pipe in it, but I capped it off.

There is no damper, and the opening where the damper should have been is a slot.

The fireplace pipe, from the top of the fireplace to the roof exit, is single wall sheet metal.

Also, I think S.F. is real strict on fireplace codes.

It'll probably be another month before I start......

Oak and Hickory are the biggies around here---and so far as I'm concerned, the best.

Hmmm,What kind of firewood do I like best?I would have to say MN firewood. It is hard to come by,and you have to wait until the perfect moment to harvest it,,but once you have a couple of truck loads, you really learn to appreciate it.It is one of those ready to burn types,so much easier then going out and cutting up oak and splitting and drying it.I recommend it highly. But if you are going to try and harvest some,be prepared,it may turn into alot of work,,,oh,by the way,MN does not stand for Minnesota,,It stands for My Neighbors!
