Call your old Friends!

You ever wonder about old friends,,,and say to yourself,,,hey I am going to call so and so,,,but then get busy with other things and forget about calling them?Yeah?Me too,,,In fact,I was just talking with someone the other day and mentioned a friend of mine and thought to myself,,hmmm,I havent talked to him in a while,,,I should call him.Well,I didnt,,,I forgot all about it.Then this morning I got a phone call,,he had gotten Pneumonia and died,,,,at 49yrs old.Geez,Im going to miss him!He could look at a part and tell you,,,,yup, that pcm came off of a 1979 f-150,but you can use one off of a 78,and if you change the yellow w/white strip wire to pin 14,then you can use one off of a 80 or 81.The guy knew his stuff,,I met him about thirty years ago,we both started working in a scrap yard,,,I moved on to working in dealerships, and he stayed at the bone yard,,,he loved it.He worked his way up the ladder and eventually became the general manager of the entire operation.Over the years, when I would go visit him at the yard at closing time,,,he would close and lock the gates,,then we would grab a couple of old junk cars and race through the junkyard having our own demolition derby.Man,what great times we had.Back in my drinking days,he was my drinking buddy,,boy could we polish off the brews!Oh,the stories I could tell ya,,,Him on his harley, and me on my kawasaki, racing from bar to bar,and waiting for him at every light to catch up,Boy,he used to get so mad at me for not waiting if the light turned green before he got to it!Now,,I regret not making sure his wife knew how to get ahold of me,she wanted me to be a pall bearer, but couldnt reach me,,,if only she had looked in his wallet,,,thats where my ph# was.Like I said,,,I sure am going to miss him.

So.CALL your old friends! Before it is too late!

There is nothing worse than thinking "why didn't I" or "I should have" or "I wish I would have". As Kep said, life is just too damn short. Last week I was surprised by a half dozen people I hadn't seen in 30+ years. I still haven't come down from the feeling. With communications such as they are, theres no reason not to keep in touch. It's too easy.

this is so true. everybody and their 9 year old kids have a cell phone. We dont even have to talk, just send text . Over the years email addys may change, but cell numbers will most likly stay the same. I wish I had some of my old friends cell numbers. The last time I saw some of my old pals the cell phone wasn't even invented yet

I remember one time I went to visit him after work, the yard was closed and all the workers had gone home.He was mad, because he was on a schedule to get x amount of cars ready, because there was a crusher coming in tomorrow, and they were about 40 cars behind schedule. They had an area where the cars were stripped, all the tires had to be removed, all the gas tanks and batteries, removed, and any valuable parts taken off.Well, there was a front wheel drive Toranado in the bay, they had cut it in half, saving the front half and junking the rear half,,he was mad that the guy who cut it in half, had just left it there instead of getting the area ready for the next day knowing they had tons of work to do.Well you know me,,,I took a gas can, stuffed a hose to the fuel pump, slapped in a battery, and hopped in and drove the front half of the car out of the bay.He just about rolled over laughing,I pulled up,said,HOP IN!And we went for a tour of the yard,,laughing and having a great time while marking the cars that we were going to prep for disposal. We grabbed 2 cases of beer, and worked all night getting the 40 cars ready for the crusher.Man we worked good together. The next morning,we were both passed out in a new Cadillac when the owner showed up.At first he was mad because he thought we had spent the night partying in the yard,,,but when he found out we had worked all night getting the cars ready,he took us out to breakfast.Funny,,I dont think I ate much,as tired and hung over as I was!

Indeed. The more people i meet the more i have to chose who i hang out with. Some of my friends are great people but are the wrong crowd if you know what i mean.

About a friend ago i lost a buddy cause he completely changed due to a drug he started getting into. I dont mean he just sat around doing drugs, or lost his job or something. I mean he was absolutely a completely different person. It was surreal.

Florida has been going down the crapper within the past few years. At least jacksonville has.

I had a buddy, I knew since 1969, that we were suppose to get in touch, so I
could visit him and his wife in Gualala, Ca. (pronounced wa-la-la).

I kept on telling myself to give him a call, but kept on putting it off.

He'll be there when I finally call.

Received a call from another friend telling me he passed away two years ago
from sclerosis of the liver.

It was alcohol related.

I call some of my friends every year on their Birthday's and Anniversaries without fail.

Other friends I call just to see what is new in their lives.

I call relatives in England at least twice a year to touch base as well .

E-mail is fine but nothing replaces "The Voice" of someone that you care about.

Before the computer age and e-mail I never ever wrote letters to friends, as hand writing was too exhausting.. I used to record a letter on cassette tape and mail that.
