Oil Change

Alright, got the truck running great, needed a little plug wire adjustment. I went to chagne the oil, and I can't get the d*mn drain plug out. Its in there extremely tight and the bolt head is very thin, not standard depth, so the wrench slips easily. Any tricks on breaking it loose?

Somehow, you need to hold the wrench snug on the bolt, while loosening it. I am thinking that the bolt in there is not a factory plug, and could be a self-tapping plug. Your oil pan may never be the same, and maybe this is a good time to see about replacing the pan. my 2.5 cents

Aaron, can you get a six-point socket on that plug ? Or maybe a box end rachet ? After you do finally get it out, get something thicker and toss the thin head problem in your scrap barrel. DF

I have been trying it with a 7/8 socket. The truck begins to move before the bolt will, so I had someone hold the truck still and it still won't move. Impact wrench is the only thing I can think off, but I don't think there's enough room to get one in there.

Aaron, it sounds like it’s really on there! Try sliding a 3-foot section of pipe over the handle of your socket wrench and use it as an extension. This should give you the leverage needed to break it loose. Be careful, when the plug breaks loose (or the wrench) your hands will fly into the nearest sharp object so plan ahead.

There is no reason it should be that tight. When you get it out, replace the plug or at least get a new nylon washer.
