Checking codes
Ok my father in law has a 2002 F150 w/ 4.6 and 90K miles on it. His "Service Engine Soon" light came on. Is there anyway that I can check the codes without using a scanner? I tried searching but didn't find anything about it. I live in Northern Ca, and they are in Southern CA, so none of my tools or scanner are here. Thanx in advance.

id rather do it myself. The closest autozone to my inlaws is almost 40 min away. On my Dakota I can check the codes without needing a scanner. Just thought that maybe the Ford would do it also.

If you invest in a about a $50 code reader for OBDII, it may be a better way go.
Actron has a low end unit that will do this. Just a reader and code clear function.
You need a code chart to see what the code is referring to for the system in fault.
