I am pretty sure it is electronic, because it returns to empty when you shut the truck off and automatically raises when you put the key into the start position.

According to my 2002 wiring diagrams manual, there is a potentiometer within the fuel pump that sends the fuel level signal to the guage in the dash.

so is this intergrated within the fuel pump itself? If there is a problem with the guage then do you have to replace the pump????

That is the way that it is represented in the wiring diagram. The service manual mentions, "Check the fuel pump assembly in-tank mounting, float, float rod, wiring and connections for damage or obstruction." Good luck!
