How strong are the tie down points in front of the bed
I have an 05 SD and hate riding my Brute up the ramp to load it. i was wondering if I could take a 5K ratchet strap between the two of them and conect a Shackle at the center point and winch myself up?
Is this a bad idea? Will the tie down points pull out? Me and the ATV would be about 800-900 pounds. I could let the ATV idle up as I was winching to reduce the strain?

I love loading my 400 Eiger up into my truck, it's the unloading that makes me ill. But onto your question, I don't believe the amount of stress that you would be subjecting the points to would be good. I believe they are just secured to the sheet metal. You also might want to concider the angle you would be pulling from, wouldn't the cable drag on the tailgate untill you got up a certain height? That would add to the tension.

I hate loading and unloading as well. The problem with using a ratchet strap for that, besides the anchor points just being attached to the sheet metal, is that it would take absolutely forever. You would have to reel it in, set park brake, unroll, tighten, etc. It would take all day just to load...

I have never trusted sheet metal screws. So what I did was put on round eye tie downs in the bed of the truck. I used 1/4" rivet nuts and two 1/4" bolts. I have cranked down really hard with 1200lb tie downs and have never had one pull out. I also use my crane to get heavy stuff in and out of the truck. It's a real back saver.
