Which Cleveland?

How can I find out which 351 cleveland engine that I have in my 1972 Ford Ranchero? cleveland 2v or cleveland 4v. I found; D7TE-A-2B casting/stamped on the passengerside lower portion of the block. does that tell anything? thank you

Well if it is D7TE then you have either a 351M or a 400 out of a truck and NOT a 351C. What is the 5th digit in your VIN? If it is an S then your Chero came with a 400 (D1xx) and someone dropped in a later 351M/400 block, possibly during a rebuild. If the 5th digit is an H then your Chero originally came with a 2V 351C. If it is a Q, then your car came originally with a open chamber 4V 351C. The 351M was not available in the 72 Chero, only the 400 so I'm betting your VIN has an S-code for the 5th digit.

The original engine must have been a D1AE 400, because the bell housing is different on a 351C. Unless the bell/tranny was swapped also. If the current engine is a D7TE, it has a 'big block' bell/tranny.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. A D1AE block with a C6 would have been a fairly common package (big bell FMX could be in it too but not likely).

BTW, a D7TE block is a late truck block and should be a better block than a D1AE.

str8up3, where'd ya go? Did you get your question answered???
You may have also originally had a 429 or 302 in there... Tell us your first 5 VIN digits!
Your Ranchero is definitely missing its original engine...
