My truck was dragged...

No, not at the dragstrip.

Someone hooked a chain to the hitch and dragged it 30 feet across a dirt parking lot.

What kind of damage to the transmission and/or transfer case can I expect in 30K miles? Everything seems fine at the moment... 2007 XLT PSD FX4

What condition was it dragged? Was it running, 4 wheel drive, wheels spinning? Was it in park, parking brake set?

How does it drive now, next call the police so there is a report filed, then take to a ford dealer, and see if anything is damaged, if it is see if the insurance will pay for it, I would think so since it would be considered vandalism. Next are there any duramax's or cummins guys in the parking lot that would do such a thing.

Think linear from the tires to the driveline/transfercase/tranmission. Tires, do they have bald spots (not likely in dirt)? Brakes, were they set and if so what would be damaged by what would otherwise be similar to braking hard and locking them up for 30 feet (probably nothing). Are the e-brakes engaged with a smaller pad that might be damaged? If the brakes weren't set your driveline would turn, right, etc., etc.

I don't think anything would be damaged, and if you don't have problems that you see relatively quickly I think it'd be alright.

It drives o.k. after the fact. A quick blast up to 60 didn't break anything loose.

It was parked, w/o the parking brake set, in 2wd, not running. It was pulled backwards. You could see in the caliche where the wheels were dragged. Someone hooked a chain to the back of the receiver and had their way with it. You can see a rust spot on the spare where the chain-hook rubbed. Also some telltale scraping on one side of the hitch.

If anything was damaged, I was thinking perhaps the parking pawl in the transmission? Since the transmission wasn't under power, I didn't know if there'd be any damage to the clutchpacks or gears.

I've saw a show on TV a while back on a repo company. When a vehicle is in a spot they can't get at they drag it out. The ones I saw it done to were on pavement. (FWD cars)

Since you were on dirt the truck is probably Ok.

I would find whoever did it and give them a beating.

There is no way that the transmission's clutches or gears could be damaged. It is possible, though unlikely that the parking pawl could be broken. If park still works, then it's fine.

Dragging a vehicle does much more damage to the owner than the vehicle.

Check the parking pawl, they are not that strong.. On dirt, depending on the grade of it, the tires would have little resistance to slide across.. Was it a straight pull, if so then thats good... Less stress on jerking it side to side..

Lets go find em blaine.. Hook the rig up to it and lets just rip it apart.. Your putting what, something like 1800lbs torque down with that big rig LOL

They dragged my truck out of the way to get to their trailer. Which was kingpin locked, and had been there for a week. I had parked there so I could have the Ford close to the Freightliner. Being that it was kingpin locked, I thought it was a valid assumption that it probably wasn't going to move that night. It was 2 parking spaces away from the Freightliner. Funny thing is that my Freightliner was the only running truck on that entire side of the yard, so it wasn't TOO difficult to figure out who the Ford belonged to.

Either they were in a hurry, or were enough of a ***khead so that they thought they were "teaching me a lesson". MOST people in this situation at other times have had the courtesy to knock on my door and ask me to move, which I will immediately do. *shrug* I don't normally park on that side of the yard anyway.

If you know which trailer they wanted to get to then it shouldn't be too hard to figure out who did it. Time to open a can of "whoop-***" on someone.

Oh I don't know if it was my trailer you parked in front of and you weren't around, I would of probably done the same thing. I would of been as gentle as I could, but in front of my trailer is not a parking spot. I have to get my trailer.
