P3 I'm with you ; the original push button start stays in my truck.
Tom
Im with you guys. I like the nostalgia of the push button "Junk". Truxx my feelings are hurt I thought we were pals. Long time ago I even defended your backwards "Ford" engine
When I pushed that "junk" button. This rumbled to life and I got all giddy inside.
53OTM have you installed that switch yet? Mid50's HotRodtrucks, and Carolina Classic sell a kit that gives you two door lock cylinders along with an ignition switch all with matching Key. Might save you a little hassle down the road. Most of us have scars from lessons learned, some physical, majority MENTAL
I'm liking your air intake ; did you fab mounting bracket or modify an existing one from the donor ?
Also would be interested in your throttle pedal and linkage; I installed a hanging pedal from an Explorer but am waffling now; may try to use floor mounted pedal and adapt hanging liinkage.
A friend of mine fabbed the air intake. My pedal assembly is from a late 80's Mustang. It mated up to the Factory Crown Vic throttle linkage. PM me and I will get you some better photos of it
ya gotta love these guy's , they know everything ! p.s i have a 53 thats a daily driver still flatty powered , and a 55 in a million peices . i've probably driven these poor souls crazy with flathead questions and the same question about the door locks .
I used a new switch and bypassed the push button. Then the push button became the horn button for the aaOOOOOGA monster! Jag
Good stuff.
I can`t remember if my 56 M100 even had a starter button or it was on the key...
It`s been off the road 4 years now, hopefully by spring it will be reborn and driving better than ever!
I decided to go ahead and get my existing passenger door lock re-keyed to match the new ignition switch. I'm assuming remove the door panel and reach inside and its clipped on somehow.
yepper on the two door locks on the custom cabs as the now gone pos rust bucket original cab and doors of my 55 were / are a custom cab , and it had two door locks . i kept all the goodies for the locks so if and when , and if i can find 'em now ican have the drivers side installed . i love the push button myself and it's a great antitheft as noone other than me and the grandkids know thats what its for . and i like the look of the original dash . also the clip for the door lock is on the door jamb and dont be suprised if you mangle it trying to get her out ! i love your truck by the way .
53 Older, when I got my driver's license, Chevvies had the starter on the floor. If you really want to confuse thieves, move the button under the dash and fill the original hole.
I'm keeping the push button. But, when I push mine, (bwahahaha) you will hear the sound of a caged lion wanting out (I still love that I have a CAT diesel in my 55). Yes, the custom/deluxe cabs had two door locks, and yes, the myth is true...Ford used the passenger side for "safety." Building a truck around a small part, I agree. i bought a 74 LT8000 dumptruck and disassembled it to build a (what started as a 53, but is now a 55) mid 50's Ford Big Job around the CAT (yeah, still love the CAT) motor, and the 5x4 trans.
