I now have 11K on my 08 and love it. But recently, about every 200 to 300 miles it goes into re-gen when I shift into park. The re-gen cycle is taking about 20 to 25 minutes to complete. Has anyone else experienced this? Before now, it usually onle laste 5 to 10 minutes.
I use ULSD from a few major sellers in my area, and add Ford brand cetane booster every tank.
Well I only have 700 miles on mine and have only had 2 regens that i noticed.... the first lasted about 5 minutes. The second one was this morning and total time was probably 20 minutes. It started when I parked and I tried to wait it out but after waiting 10 minutes I decided to shut it off and do what I had to do. Then after returning to the truck and starting it again it went back into regen and it lasted another 10 minutes until I hit the brake and drove off. When I parked it again it did not go back into regen. Seemed like kind of a long regen to me.
I was out this weekend and I hooked to the trailer and it went into regen the whole time I was latching the trailer. I didn't wait for it to finish and when I started driving the exhaust was loud.... very loud, sounded in the truck like I had a cracked/open window at highway speeds but I checked all the winows and were closed.... I opened the rear slider and holy moly sounded like a jet engine was in the bed of the truck. The sound was bouncing off the trailer and after about 2-3 miles of this the potato finally popped out and sounded normal again. Regen from hell.....
Short regens when parked means it was in regen mode for a period of time prior to shifting into Park. Longer times means the cycle hadn't started long before you shifted into Park. In either case, it takes approx. 20 minutes to oxidize all of the soot that's been collected. This 20 minutes is a collective effort of driving while in regen and Parked while in regen. Even if you shut the engine off during a cycle, it will resume where it left off the next time the engine is ran.
Mine use to for the 1st 1500 miles until I towed long and hard this summer. Have not felt it go into Regen for the past 3500 miles. About 1000 miles since I towed last. Maybe it has and just haven't felt it. Its running great.
Man I've been looking for something that describes this condition "regen" over and over. Where does Ford publish this information on what to expect under what conditions, how often, how long and how intrusive it will be? If its a problem of over and over some one needs to add information on this in a locked thread so everyone can find it, like in the tech folder.... my 2 cents unless no one even knows how it works under all conditions???

IF YOU LOOK IN SOME OF THE PREVIOUS THREADS POSTED, YOU WILL FIND THE INFORMATION THAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. I AGREE THAT IT SHOULD BE POSTED LIKE YOU HAVE METIONED BECAUSE ABOUT ONCE A WEEK A NEW USER WILL ASK THE THE SAME QUETION,( what is a regen and how does it work).
IN MY OPINION, READ YOUR OWNERS MANUAL INSTREAD OF READING A HUNDRED POSTS OF WHAT EVERYBODY ELSES REGEN IS LIKE.
My 08 f-350 crew cab long box has around 15,000 miles on it and goes into ACTIVE regen around every 150-250 miles. and will last any where from 10min to the longest I've seen is 45-50 min while in park. Not to cool though also tested the exaust temp at the tips and registered around 568 degrees during active regen.
