Has anyone used the black diamond product for sandblasting a frame and if so, does it do a good job. Its cheap enough but have not heard much about it.
I used it, it worked pretty good for me. I did have 2 problems though.
1-it was really humid so it tended to clump up in the blaster.
2-the tip on my blaster was pretty small, so it clogged up often. I think a bigger compressor that would have been able to keep up may have negated this problem.
I tried it, but had problems with it clogging my tip, which was a royal pain... Took one bag back and exchanged it for another smaller grit, but haven't tried it yet...
My hardware store carries two grits. I use the coarse in my syphon feed system. I have a small compressor and a small hopper syphone system so I am not too afraid of it being too aggressive. I have been told you can't use it in a pressurized system, I don't know this for a fact. I wouldn't use it in a stronger system than mine for sheet metal parts, I blast sheet metal with mine but again, it's a small, weak system.
Personally, I would find someone to blast the frame. I hate blasting larger object. I spent three years in a big truck body shop and did my share of heavy sandblasting. It's messy and takes a lot of work to set it up, do the blasting and then clean up. Just not worth doing it myself, IMHO. I have found a couple of places that will do it for just a bit more than it would cost me for the media and blaster rental. You have to search around, I have found there are huge differences in prices. It all depends how busy the shops are and what kind of work is their main business. A body shop will charge a lot more than a place that just does blasting and primer, at least this is what I have found out.
I found a place in central Wisc. that will blast and powder coat the frame and misc. parts like inner fenders and so on for $250. I may have them do it. Thanks for the input.

Man that sounds like a deal. Figure in your sand cost and time on your compressor and thats a deal.
