Truck won't crank
Hey guys, I've read through about 30 pages on this forum trying to figure this out with no luck. So I need some advice. Got a 99 7.3 dually, for a couple days it died a few times coming to a stop sign, but cranked right back. Drove home the other night, everything was fine. Cut it off, went in to bed. Got up the next morning to go to work, Won't crank! Did some reading on here, bought a new cps at ford dealership (27.62 plus tax). Put it on, still won't crank! I can hear fuel pump under drivers side door running when switch is on and checked fuel stream at filter housing by turning drain valve. Don't know nothing about deisels. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, dkay

Fuel presure problem listed here.
The one I am looking for though is a guy who had some wire rubbing by the steering, ( i think ) this was also causing a intemittent, then total shut down.

Welcome to the site dkay.
1st: Yes there is a fuel cut off switch located behind the passenger kick panel inside the truck. But since you can hear the pump and can get a good stream of fuel out that's probably not the issue. I would recommend pulling the filter lid and make sure the fuel bowl is full just to make sure.
How old are your batteries? The truck may sound like it's turning over fast enough, but weak batteries won't let it crank. This wouldn't explain the stalling issue though.
How old is the oil and is it low?
Do you have any dash lights that don't come on or won't go off? When the truck stalled was it rough or more like someone just turned the key off?

A little bit of an update...I tested the batteries and one of them is definitely bad. Pulled fuel filter lid and it is full. Oil level is ok but could stand to be changed. Dash lights seemed normal. Will replace dead battery and fuel filter tomorrow. thanks! dkay--hoping a new battery's gonna fix it!
