Yep, tells when the filter is plugged, that's it! I've never had one of mine light up due to a plugged filter. The filters get replaced fairly often though. I think the engine would run pretty bad before the filter plugs
that sensor is on the intake side of the filter, so a piece of teflon tape wouldn't likely cause any trouble. unlikely that any would break off anyhow.
as a rule, tapered thread gets tape and straight threads get anti-seize.
i changed that sensor out this summer (due to leaking) and mine was 80 bucks at the dealership- couldn't find it anywhere else.
