If you want to hold the window up so it doesn't fall on your fingers, A good thing to do is either put slide clamps with rubber heads on the top of the window if you can get it to slide down some so they catch or cut out a section of the bottom of the door metal(4 1/2" angle grinder works good) bottom left side towards the middle and put something in there to prop it up with, like a peice of wood from a 2x4. Keep the cut peice of metal and duct tape it back on when done. No one will ever know there is a big chunk of metal duct taped back on the door but you.
Good idea, my idea was a bit simpler as I had the correct length bungee cord handy. I went from the regulator arm around the front of the door by the vent wing and hooked it to the outside mirror. A piece of rope would do the trick, if you trust your knots!
A couple other things worth mentioning...
The rebuild parts were available at Kragen O' Reilly, I bought one complete gear kit and one package of 3 nylon pieces for around 32 bucks.
Took me longer to research how to do it and getting the nads to tackle it than actually doing the job.
I wish I would have tackled the passenger side when I bought the truck, then I wouldn't have waited until complete failure for my 23 mile drive home at night with a thin sweatshirt!
