When I was in the wrecking yard today, I found the original intake air filter housing that I needed for my 1982 F250 4.9 300 Inline Six.
What I didn't find, and is almost impossible to find (up here in Alaska anyway) and is needed in cold climates, is the intake air pre-heat shroud that bolts onto the exhaust manifold. It's the piece that the 2" flex-tube runs down to from the bottom of the air filter housing's forward snout.
Inside the air filter housing snout there is a temperature controlled vacuum activated flapper that diverts the warmer air coming up off of the exhaust manifold (through the round flex hose) into the filter housng, rather than using the air from the intake air's normal route through the black semi-square flexible (accordian) plastic hose that goes out to the grill area.
Ford stopped making these exhaust manifold mounted intake air pre-heat shrouds about ten years ago and there appears to be no after-market supplier, unless someone here maybe knows of a supplier.
I also need the air filter housing's vertical support bracket that attaches to the front side of the air filter housing and attaches down by the intake somewhere (it's about eight inches long or so.)
Right now I have an oil bath intake air filter housing setup that is really a nice piece and works great and fits over the single barrel Carter carb (it's taller than the stock air filter housing). It would work better in an area that doesen't see a lot of weather well below freezing on a regular basis.
If anyone could help me locate these two items (Pre-heat shroud and housing support bracket) I'd really appreciate it. I would think there'd be a few of these (heat shroud) laying around in the South and Southwest as they're not really needed in the temperate climates.
Thanks for any help.
If you are handy, you can make your own that will work. I take thin aluminum flashing from Lowe's, and bend and form it to mount around the manifold, and then make a nipple for the hose to fit on much like the HVAC guys do when they cut into the main square duct to hook a hose on your home heating system. It's not the prettiest thing in the world, but if you get it hooked up, and as soon as you start the truck you go out an put your hand over the hose going to the aircleaner, and it is getting warm, you know you have it. Just so your are pulling around around the exhaust, it will work.
Thanks Franklin, I thought about that and it will be my last resort if I can't find a good used one. I do have a lead on a used one from here at the board. We'll see how it goes.

In another thread on this subject, I posted the part number (E1TZ-9A603-A) and the various years and models (F Series, Econoline & Bronco) it fits. I also listed Mike's Truck Salvage (an FTE sponsor) as a possible source. FTE sponsor Green Sales has the air cleaner bracket.
