Be carefull with getting water on the COP or down in the plug holes.Make sure to blow them out or you will have missfire probs like redford said above.
If you take the time to cover critical parts with plastic bags and use low pressure water, there should be no problems. I've been cleaning the engines in both my '02 F250 (V8-7.3L diesel) and my '96 Suburban (V8-5.7L gasser), and have had no trouble yet.
Key actions are, again... cover critical electrical components with plastic bags, and use low pressure water with Simple Green.
mis fires for me too right after cleaning, but ya engine looks much better. (be careful around electricle plugs.) my engine ran like crap after cleaning it. went threw and started unplugging and repluging stuff back in because i got stuff wet. found some puddling water, and bad wires insolation that needed fixing, so im good now.
i used simple green and rinst with water lightly .
